The East Kinston Neighborhood Hub is proud to be part of the North Carolina Climate Justice Collective’s Resiliency Organizing Hubs Network—a statewide movement building local power, resilience, and justice in the face of climate change.

Our Hub is rooted in the principles of climate justice: cultivating intergenerational and multiracial leadership while centering the voices of youth, Black and Brown communities, low-income families, women, and LGBTQI+ people. Together, we are working to resist inequality and oppression, reform systems and institutions, reimagine a just and sustainable future, and recreate community-led solutions that make this vision possible.

At the East Kinston Neighborhood Hub, our resiliency work includes:

  1. Climate Resilience Planning & Disaster Preparedness – Hosting trainings and community conversations that equip residents with the skills to prepare for and recover from hurricanes, flooding, and other disasters made worse by the climate crisis.

  2. Community-Based Emergency Response – Building neighborhood-level capacity to respond to emergencies, ensuring that residents have access to resources, information, and safe spaces when disasters strike.

  3. Youth & Community Leadership Development – Each year, we bring a delegation of Kinston youth and residents to the North Carolina Climate Justice Summit, where they connect with other communities across the state, learn organizing skills, and bring those lessons home to strengthen local resilience.

  4. Skills for a Regenerative Economy – Hosting workshops and programs that introduce green job pathways, cooperative economics, and strategies for building a sustainable, people-centered economy in Kinston.

Why It Matters

East Kinston is one of the most economically distressed neighborhoods in North Carolina, and residents face disproportionate impacts from flooding, pollution, and disinvestment. By being part of this statewide network, we are not just responding to disasters—we are reshaping the systems that create inequity in the first place, and working alongside our hub partners from across the region.

The East Kinston Neighborhood Hub is a place where people can learn, heal, and lead together—strengthening our neighborhood while also connecting to a broader movement for climate and social justice across North Carolina.
